ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Ekō-in Temple School (回向院幼稚園) was established in 1924, and is affiliated with Ekō-in (回向院), a Buddhist temple in Ryōgoku, Tokyo, constructed in 1657. As the school is located adjacent to the temple and near the Kokugikan (Sumo stadium), PiA Fellows will be able to enjoy a historically and culturally rich environment while teaching at the school. The school also has a sister school in Chiba. Since 2005, PiA Fellows have been responsible for English classes for young children between ages 2-11 and their parents, and have also lead after school activities. Activities that the school offers to children includes, experiencing rice farming, participating in Buddhist and other Japanese traditional ceremonies, learning music and art. The school is particularly strong in music education, with the School Head graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts. The person responsible for the PiA program at the school is an alum of the University of Minnesota.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The PiA Fellow will be responsible for English instruction and feedback for children aged 2 to 5, as well as lead childcare, play, etc. during the day. Fellows will also provide English instruction and feedback for children aged 6 to 12, and plan and implement kindergarten events.
