New PiA Board member Teresa Velez
Princeton in Asia is pleased to announce the election of Teresa Velez to the Board of Trustees. In this role, Teresa will support the overall strategic management and governance of PiA and will also serve on the Board Development Committee. “It is with tremendous excitement that we welcome Teresa to the Board,” stated M.B. Dillon, Executive Director. “Teresa brings valuable expertise in education, talent development, nonprofit management, and philanthropy to the Board, along with an equity mindset and deep passion for the mission and values of PiA. We are thrilled to work with her.”
Teresa's connection with PiA began as a Fellow in Yakage, Japan teaching English to over 500 preschool and Kindergarten students across eight schools; and teaching advanced English to Industrial Engineering students at Atma Jaya University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Along the way, Teresa also served on PiA's staff supporting grant writing, annual donor fundraising, and recruitment and selection of new PiA Fellows. She is based in Oakland, California and has served as a member of the PiA Bay Area Steering Committee since 2016, bringing together alumni in the Bay to facilitate networking and connection to PiA through the enjoyment of all the incredible Asian culture that the Bay has to offer. Says Teresa, “I am honored and humbled to join the Princeton in Asia Board, and look forward to supporting PiA's mission of service and connection-building for the next generation of Fellows and the entire PiA community.”
