Introducing PiA’s 2023 Summer Interns

Princeton in Asia is pleased to introduce the Summer Intern Class of 2023. We are thrilled to relaunch our summer internship program, with Jasmine Chen and Koji Kawamoto serving as the first interns in post since the summer of 2019.

Read on to learn more about our two Summer Interns!

Jasmine Chen

Jasmine is a rising sophomore at Princeton University and is serving as the Leadership and Inclusion Trainee at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Hiroshima, Japan. With a presence in the symbolic city of Hiroshima, UNITAR provides innovative learning solutions to individuals, organizations, and institutions to enhance global decision-making, deliver innovative training, and research effective approaches to support a new generation of changemakers. To date, the Hiroshima Office has reached nearly 50,000 learners in least developed countries, conflict and post-conflict states, and fragile states, as well as people living in Japan.

Through this internship, Jasmine is organizing public sessions in partnership with academic and research institutions, think tanks, and NGOs. She is planning and implementing events to engage diverse populations in beneficiary countries, and maintaining and strengthening relationships with media outlets to disseminate the results and impact of UNITAR activities. Jasmine is also supporting the UNITAR staff with in-person and online events, assisting with ongoing youth related programs, and contributing innovative ideas that will support UNITAR's mission.

Koji Kawamoto

Koji is a rising senior at Princeton University and is serving as the Student Recruitment and Admissions Assistant at KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. KIMEP, a PiA host organization since 1994, is an independent, non-profit higher education institution serving a multinational student body. KIMEP is committed to developing well-educated citizens and improving the quality of life in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region through teaching, learning, community service, and knowledge advancements in the fields of business administration and social sciences.

Through this internship, Koji is contributing to KIMEP’s student recruitment initiatives with the goal of increasing admissions. By participating in recruitment events including Open House Days, summer picnics, and summer English camp, Koji is actively supporting KIMEP’s community outreach in Almaty. He is also providing advisory services for prospective applicants, reviewing student services for international students, and developing ideas for new recruitment tools and events.

Princeton in Asia gratefully acknowledges Princeton University’s Service Focus program for its support of the internship at UNITAR and the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University for its support of the internship at KIMEP.
