Founded in 1873, the Niizawa Sake Brewery has always been family-run and family-owned. The current President is the 5th generation President of the brewery. The original brewery was destroyed in an earthquake in 2011 and the current brewery was constructed later the same year in Kawasaki, Miyagi on the grounds of a previously unoccupied brewery. Niizawa Sake Brewery is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of its sake and is constantly researching and developing new technologies to produce a high-quality product. Most of the staff is quite young, and several employees are drawn from outside of Miyagi province, which is unusual for a sake brewery. The staff is entirely local and is 70% female.
